Indications - The Skil-Care Padded Plus Mitts are recommended for use with a patient who:

  • Removes bandages and dressings
  • Picks and scratches at wounds
  • Grasps and pulls out feeding and naso-gastric tubes

These extra padded mitts limit picking, scratching, the ability to grab tubes and bruising other residents. They also limit the hand range-of-motion when the extra tie strap is used.

Amply cushioned with 1.5" thick padding, the universally sized Skil-Care Padded-Plus Mitts are a comfortable patient restraint to limit the amount of picking and scratching by patients. The CooLine mesh cover allows for visual inspection of the hands while also promoting air circulation. Skil-Care Padded-Plus Mitts also inhibit the ability for a patient to grab or pull on tubes for their own safety.

Safety-First Design: Crafted to prevent self-injury or tampering with IV lines, these padded mitts provide a secure yet gentle restraint solution, ensuring patient safety with dignity.

Breathable Comfort: Constructed with lightweight materials and a mesh design, they promote air circulation, reducing heat buildup and enhancing comfort during extended use.

Secure Fit: Featuring adjustable straps, the mitts ensure a snug, secure fit that is easy for caregivers to apply and remove, offering convenience in busy care settings.

Versatile Use: Suitable for various healthcare environments, these mitts are ideal for patients with dementia, those in post-surgery recovery, or individuals with special needs requiring hand restraint.

Contraindications for Use
• Whose hand strength makes it possible for them to grasp tubing. For such patients the Rigid-Palm Padded Mitts are recommended.
• Who are able to turn their hands over inside the mitts. For such patients the Finger Separator Padded Mitts
are recommended.

Application
1. All mitts fit both left & right hands. Place patient’s hand in mitt, palm side on padding, top of hand facing mesh.
2. Wrap strap around patient’s wrist, making certain to pass wrist strap through loop on top side of mitt.
3. Secure the mitt to the resident’s wrist. The slider buckle comes pre-threaded. Wrist strap should fit snugly.
Caution: Do not overtighten. Doing so could cut off circulation to patient’s hand. You should be able to slip one
finger between mitt cuff and wrist. Loose end of strap can be secured with hook & loop. In the event the
pre-threaded webbing comes out of the slider buckle, re-thread the slider buckle.
4. If patient’s arm and hand movement need to be restricted, use the set of loop straps
supplied with the mitts. Thread non-looped end of strap through loop on back of mitt.
5. Thread the non-looped end of strap through loop on end of strap.
6. Tie strap to wheelchair, bed, or geri-chair. Always secure the tie strap to the part of the bed that moves when the patient is raised or lowered. Never attach straps to bed rails or any part of the bed that doesn’t move when raised or lowered.
7. Raise and lock bed rails before leaving patient. Always raise and lock bed rails when patient is wearing padded mitts that have been secured to the bed frame. Never leave bed rails in lowered position when patient is unattended.

Laundering Instructions
This device should not be laundered or dried at temperatures that exceed 180°F (82°C). Do not use bleach.
