The NYOrtho Gap Shield is an innovative solution designed to reduce the risk of entrapment in beds. It acts as a protective barrier by filling gaps around the perimeter of the mattress, particularly those adjacent to the headboard, footboard, and side-rails.

Entrapment in beds, particularly hospital beds, refers to situations where patients become trapped in gaps or spaces in the bed system. Such entrapments can result in patient harm, including strangulation, asphyxiation, and even death. The risk is especially high among vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and those with limited mobility or cognitive impairments.
